Chimpanzees Have a Rocky Romance !
When a crystal is provided to a chimp it may not be returned.
Researchers learned this bitterly. Chimpanzees were also presented with quartz, calcite, and other forms of crystals at a rehabilitation center. The Chimpanzees took a great interest in the experiment and the researchers had to get back the biggest crystal by using large quantities of bananas and yogurt. Others were never retrieved.
The crystal chimp experiment was released on 4 March 2026 in the magazine, Frontiers in Psychology. It tried to figure out what it is about the sparkling minerals that is so appealing to the nearest relatives of the apes, the humans. Juan Manuel García-Ruiz, a Spanish crystallographer with the Donostia International Physics Center, was the leader of the study.
The major part of the professional life of Dr. Garcicia-Ruiz is devoted to the research of the material qualities of crystals and their applications in the research. He is also much interested in the influence of the crystals on the history of art and the history of mind, which was so claimed. Archaeological finds have revealed quartz and other the crystals and it is believed that the stones were collected by the pre-human beings as early as 700,000 years ago. Researchers have not found any evidence that they were turned into tools, ornaments, or anything else that is useful.
Modern man is also fond of crystals and it is sometimes attributed to them, healing or other supernatural abilities. Some colleagues sometimes say, there is a need to tell people that this is absolutely ridiculous. Nevertheless, Dr. Garccia-Ruiz believes that it is more significant that people be informed as to why this belief is the case.
