The word Gouri means fair-skinned woman; An unmarried eighth-year girl called Kali or Shyama (Krishnavarna). Gouri is a Hindu goddess. She is also known as Parvati and Uma. She is the consort of Shiva and the primordial Parashakti, other goddesses descended from her parts or her avatars, she is worshiped in various forms. So she is considered the supreme goddess in Hinduism. She is the mother of Ganesha and Karthik. In some sects, she is regarded as the sister of Lord Vishnu. She is said to be the daughter of Giriraj (mountain god Himalaya) and Goddess Menaka. [Md Shahin Alam]
