Mahisha Mardini (Durga)

Mahisha Mardini is the Rudra form of Parvati. She is also known as Durga, Katyayani, Bhadrakali, Dashabhuja, etc. This goddess is sometimes eight-handed or sometimes ten-handed. Each of her hands holds a different weapons. One of the weapons is the trident, pierced in the chest of Mahishasura lying at her feet. The lion, the vehicle of the goddess, is biting an asura (evil). At the asura’s feet, there lies the severed head of a buffalo. Apart from some common features of this sculpture well known as Mahishamardini Durga,  there are some variations in its form along with time and locational variations. Goddess Durga is most revered and worshiped by the Sanatana religious community. [Md Shahin Alam]
