Neermahal: The Largest Water Palace of India

Neermahal is a famous water palace located in the northeastern Indian state named Tripura. Bir Vikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, one of the kings of Tripura state, started the construction of this palace in 1930 CE. He completed the construction of this royal palace in 1938 CE.

This palace built with a combination of Hindu and Muslim architecture is the largest water palace in India. It is known that this water palace is the only one in East India. India has only two water palaces. The other water palace is the famous ‘Jalmahal’ located in Rajasthan, one of the states of India.
This water palace named Neermahal is located in Sipahijala, one of the districts of Tripura state. This mahal is located in the middle of the Rudrasagar lake at Melaghar in Sonamura subdivision, 53 km south of Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Anybody may easily reach the palace by bus, microbus, auto, motorcycle, etc. by road. Finally, boats and speedboats have to be used to reach the mahal from land. [Md. Shahin Alam]
