Shrirampur Miya Bari Mosque
This ancient mosque, architectural illustration, is situated in Shrirampur village of Sadar upazila under Patuakhali district. There is a Bazaar named Shrirampur almost 6 kilometers east of the zigzag road from the bus station named Shiyali Bazaar of Dhaka-Patuakhali highway. The road connecting Munshir Hat and Kalabari Bazaar is 350 meters north of this Bazaar. Tipu Miya’s Bari (house) is to the 300-meter northeast corner of the zigzag road from the road connecting. Shrirampur Miya Bari Mosque is located in front of the entrance of this Bari.

It is known that in the last decade of the 18th century AD, a person named Kale Khan built this mosque.

This one-domed mosque is built in a square ground plan with a length and a width of 4.32 meters. The width of the mosque’s walls is 85 centimeters. The mosque has a dome in the center of the roof, four turrets in the four corners, and a parapet with Marlon design around the roof. There is a pitcher-shaped finial on the dome with semi-circular. The pillars of the mosque’s corner are octagonal. The outer of the east wall of the mosque is decorated with ornamental terracotta plaques and niches.
There is one entrance on the north, the south, and the east wall of the mosque. The entrances are semi-circular arched. There is a mihrab in the middle of the western wall inside the mosque. Besides, there are various types of paneled geometric designs and niches in interior walls. This Muslim architecture is listed and supervised by the Department of Archaeology as a protected archaeological heritage of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. [Md. Shahin Alam]
