Surya
September 26, 2024
Surya is the god of light, day, and wisdom—one of the five principal deities of Sanatana Dharma. His other names are Aditya, Bhaskar, Diwakar, and Suryanarayana. At one time there were many worshippers, but recently his worship has become obsolete. Different forms of him were prevalent at other times. Usually riding a chariot drawn by seven horses, the icon holds blooming lotus flowers in both hands, a long crown on the head, earrings, jewels around the neck, and other ornaments, and the feet are covered with high boots. Ancient Surya icons are seen clothed. [Md Shahin Alam]
