A sword is a sharp-edged weapon, which can be straight or curved. Swords vary in shape, definition, and historical era by geographic region.
According to historical sources, the sword was developed in the Bronze Age (?) — the earliest examples of swords, which evolved from daggers, date back to around 1600 BC. Swords were without cross guards and smaller in size in the later iron age. The spatha (sharp weapon) developed in the later Roman army became the precursor to the European sword of the Middle Ages.
